Well it is close to Christmas 2018, for those of you who celebrate Christmas. Personally I don’t do much anymore. It’s just quiet time for me.
So when I set up the category, “Random Musings,” I never thought to consider that some people might not understand what I meant. Basically it is a spot for me to come and talk about my day, my personal life and what I am currently doing in my business.
Today, I’ll just chat a bit about doing video for your business. One of my Facebook buddies, who is around 65, has really gotten into working online since he retired from real estate. He is a cannot sit around and do nothing kind of guy. One thing he discovered was that he was very afraid to do Facebook live or any kind of video for his business. So he decided to kill the fear by just doing it. In turn, he made his Facebook group a two part thing and one part is getting people to post video as a way of practice to get over their fears. He asked me to join his group and do some video as I have no fear of appearing on camera.
I’ve had a lot of fun with it. I’ve gone on video just chatting away about my life, telling a few jokes about my Vietnamese wife and proclaiming my love of Vietnamese food. In small bits, I encourage people to understand that appearing on video is much easier than selling life insurance in a trailer park like I did back in 1991. Yes, banging on doors in one of the poorest spots in Nova Scotia, is one way to make your blood pressure spike. You never knew if it was going to be a friendly person or someone completely hammered on beer, with a doberman by his side. 🙂
If you are doing business online today, it is well known that appearing on video will do a lot to earn the trust of people that you want to do business with. They can tell by the way you speak and look into the camera, that you have some decent knowledge of your topic. You do not have to be an expert, you just need to show that you have more knowledge than the person viewing your video.
Aside from doing a few video’s for my pal Fred, I’ve been trying to catch up on my reading and studying my course on how to be a Udemy instructor. I’m currently working my through a book on the History of the Silk road. Most of my reading time is spent on fiction but it is tough to find enough good fiction. I love John Sandford, James Lee Burke and Stephen King. Sadly Stephen King is kind of up and down these days with his books. I don’t like anything that he co-writes like Gwendy’s Button Box which was just plain stupid and his Outsider book was great until the ending. The editor that let that one go to press with such a crappy ending should be fired.
For my Udemy course, I picked up a great PLR course from my friend Charles Harper. Yes, I can edit the PLR and resell it as my own product but I only bought it for the over the shoulder tutorials that Charles excels at. I’ve written the PDF and the 7 day challenge that is part of my course I am building. Now I have to teach myself Powerpoint and how to use Camtasia. I find teaching myself this stuff at age 62, a real chore but it must be done.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful 2019. My personal goals for 2019, are to get my monthly online income up to around $5,000 a month, sell the condo I just bought and hate…then buy a small bungalow in Niagara Falls. By working on my time management and butt in chair productivity, I should hit that goal and also afford to buy a new Subaru Outback as well. This old guy loves to hike and birdwatch…since he cannot do martial arts anymore.
Be sure to leave a comment if you have questions about doing video or anything else that suites your fancy.
